Cut the Curtains, Billy Talent

OMG. Now, thedaddycomplex is following me! [blushes] If you have ever experienced the oddity that is a small child learning about the world, you need to follow the hilarious adventures of Wyatt & Boone. :-)

Why, HELLO, new follower! :-) Everyone cheer for A.S.B.!

God, my hands are freezing. I can barely type. :-/

I keep thinking I should knit myself some fingerless typing gloves, but my fingers ache at the thought of knitting in this cold.

For babies and toddlers freakish about brushing their hair, start off with using a horse face brush. The bristles are super-soft on her head, hair and scalp, and they’re super cheap. Plus, Spice loves to brush her soft toys “hair” in pretend-play.

It’s not at all for tangles, but we keep those down with California Baby’s spray detangler once in a while and just cut the really tough tangles out. I know that may seem a little crazy to the more fashionista parents out there, but my view is that she’s 20 months and I would rather have her be happy with a wild toddler ‘do, than have immaculate locks and tears and bathroom battles every day.

Most toddlers are early risers and Spice is no exception. This morning, she woke me up before dawn, wanting to play.

The spouse-unit and I have an arrangement that he takes her weekday mornings, and I get her on the weekends. This works out for both of us since he gets to spend more time with her on the days where he’s in the office until dinner time and I get to sleep in a little. Likewise on the weekends, when he can sleep in until noon, and Spice and I can go run errands or visit my mother.

But Mom’s out of town this weekend and we’re supposed to go to the farmers’ market before noon, so I’m spinning my wheels about what to do this morning. Hmm. Maybe bake something. Or maybe pancakes.

There is a time in every man’s education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide; that he must take himself for better, for worse, as his portion; that though the wide universe is full of good, no kernel of nourishing corn can come to him but through his toil bestowed on that plot of ground which is given to him to till.

  • me: Now where did I put my socks? I thought I just had a pair in my hand up here, but I don't know where they disappeared to. Then I thought there was a pair downstairs, but I can't find those either. It must be Disappearing Sock Day.
  • spouse-unit: Well, you're still doing better than me. I'm walking around holding the toothpaste.
I know, I know - I’m a little late to the game, but the Notes To Netflix Pool is sheer genius. :-)

I love the rain. How tragic for a California girl to get such few days of rain each year. Sometimes, I think I should just pack up and move to somewhere like Portland or Seattle, where everything is lush and green all year round. I guess I’d miss the heat after a while though; I really love L.A.’s baking summers.
